I like to start by removing and discarding the stems from portabella mushrooms. I use a paper towel to gently rub off any dirt from the caps with a gentle circular motion so that I do not damage the delicate tissue of the mushroom.

Then with a small spoon, lightly scrape around the underside of each mushroom cap in order to remove their gills. The gill is an edible part of the mushroom but can sometimes make the mushroom less appetizing.

Brush The Portobello Mushrooms With Olive Oil And Season Them How You Like

I like to brush the outside of each portabella mushroom with a light coating of olive oil and then season them with some salt and pepper. I like to keep it simple but you can season them however you like.
